Sydney Burri Burri Whale Experience, Bondi Walking Tour
About This Experience
Every July, the whales return to the Sydney coastline. For thousands of years, Aboriginal peoples of this Country have marked their arrival with song, story, and sacred tradition. The Burri Burri Whale Tour is a 2-hour walking experience on Bidjigal Country, beginning at the beachside entrance of Bondi Pavilion. Your guide is Eric Brown - Traditional Custodian and recognised member of the Aboriginal community. From Bondi Pavilion, the group walks together to the engraving site at Bondi Golf Diggers, a clifftop location perched above the Pacific that has held cultural practice for generations. Here, Eric opens with a traditional smoking welcome before sharing the stories of Burri Burri through song, dance, and oral tradition. From there, binoculars in hand, the group moves to the cliff edge to watch for whales moving through the water below. Ancient ceremony and living nature, held together in the same place.
